- Ahoy matey! Blackbeard was a notorious English pirate who operated locations from New York to the Caribbean.
- Blackbeard’s real name was most likely Edward Teach and he was born in Bristol, England.
- Blackbeard started his career as a privateer during Queen Anne’s War.
- Shiver me Timbers! To create his terrifying image, Blackbeard often wore a sling over his shoulder with three pistols and would stick lit matches under his hat.
- Those that did not give way to Blackbeard’s rule were forced to face Davy Jones’ Locker as they were lit on fire.
- Blackbeard reached the height of his reign of terror in 1718 when he commanded his own Pirate Navy with 4 ships and a crew of 400.
- It is said that Blackbeard was quite the ladies man as it is estimated he had around 14 wives in his lifetime.
- In 1717, Blackbeard and his men seized a French ship, La Concorde, which would become his flagship and was renamed Queen Anne’s Revenge.
- The boat, the Queen Anne’s Revenge, featured in the Pirates of the Caribbean films was named after Blackbeard’s pirate ship.
- In early summer 1718, the Queen Anne’s Revenge was fed to the fish when it sunk off the coast off the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
- The Queen Anne’s Revenge was found shipwrecked off the coast of North Carolina in 1996. The remains of the ship were confirmed to have been the boat belonging to Blackbeard in August 2011.
