While it was expected that an announcement would be made at the Cannes film festival that Harvey and Bob Wienstein has regained control over Miramax Films, which is being dropped from the Walt Disney Company, no announcement has come yet.
After a month of negotiations, Disney is said to have lost patience with the brothers because they were unable to agree on a set of final deal points. The brothers had bid $625 for Miramax with the help of investors.
Disney could still decide to accept the Weinstein’s bid, or they have the option of revisiting a bid made by Alec and Tom Gores for $550 million.
